STAGE 038

 Return to the BUILD

“In this stage you’ll fit the tyre around the wheel rim and mount it onto the rear right hub. You’ll then fit the hub cap with the  deployable tyre slasher.

This Tyre is fitted in the exact same way as the previous ones, so these steps should be familiar.

Materials: The Tyre is PVC rubber while the Hub Cap and Tyre Slasher are plastic.

Build

Fitting the Tyre and the Tyre Slasher

Step 1

Place the Tyre in a bowl of hot water for a minute or so to soften it. In the meantime, retrieve your chosen Wheel assembly from the previous stages.

Take care to not burn yourself with the hot water!

Steps 2-3

Remove the Tyre from the water and dry it off with a soft cloth. It should now be soft enough to wrap onto the Wheel assembly.

This is not tricky. Just slide the edge of the Wheel into the Tyre and gently pull it around the Wheel until it is fully seated on both sides:

Step 4

Take note of these three mounting lugs inside the wheel:

Step 5

Retrieve your Chassis from Stage 035. Note these three mounting tabs with matching holes on the right rear Hub:

Step 6

Align the lugs of the wheel to the tabs of the Hub and press (click) this Wheel into place, as shown.

The exposed Pin of the Axle should pass through the center of the Wheel, as shown:

Step 7

Firmly press the post of the Hub Cap into the center of the Wheel as shown, but do NOT glue it in place.

These are the ‘classic’ design and we will receive slim-line version of these Hub Caps later on in the build if we decide to change them out:

Step 8

Press the Tyre Slasher onto the end of the exposed Pin of the Axle and align it to the Hub Cap, as shown:

Step 9

You should be able to move the Tyre Slasher in and out of the Hub Cap:

Thoughts

Our first wheel is now mounted onto our Chassis. I am looking forward to adding the others so the Chassis will sit on my shelf properly!
